Recent developments suggest that Gemini Live is on track to be incorporated into Android Auto, potentially becoming its primary virtual assistant. Following the launch of Gemini Live last month, which facilitates voice-based communication with AI, there are indications that Google might broaden its availability beyond the Gemini app. Presently, this feature is exclusive to subscribers of the Gemini Advanced plan, while a basic version of Gemini is already accessible on Android Auto.

Hints about this integration were uncovered by Android Authority in the newest version of Android Auto, specifically 12.8.143544. The publication discovered references to the AI feature hidden within the app's code strings. Although Gemini Live was not explicitly cited, several strings included a sparkle icon alongside a codename, “kitt.” This reference is particularly intriguing, as it may allude to the AI car from the classic 1980s television series Knight Rider. One code snippet reportedly read “ic_assistant_kitt_live_icon,” with the sparkle icon included, while another indicated, “gearhead_assistant_action_kitt_live_query>Start conversation<.”

The latter appears to function as a prompt to initiate a dialogue with the AI. While “Kitt” likely signifies Gemini, the appearance of “live” further suggests a connection to Gemini Live. Integrating this feature into Android Auto seems practical, as hands-free operation proves increasingly advantageous during driving.

Additional insights from the tipster AssembleDebug indicated that the feature's mention appeared in a different section of the app. Here, “GeminiLiveAssistantAction” was explicitly listed within an internal assistant menu that isn't visible to regular app users. Should these claims hold true, the likelihood of Gemini Live being intentionally integrated into the platform increases.

Nevertheless, it is crucial to recognize that finding this feature coded into the app does not serve as definitive proof that Google plans to implement the voice-based AI chatbot in Android Auto. Until an official announcement from the tech giant, additional specifics regarding Gemini Live remain uncertain.

It’s worth noting that Gemini Live forms part of the Gemini Advanced subscription package. Users have the opportunity to subscribe via the Google One AI Premium plan, which costs Rs.1,950 monthly after a one-month free trial period. 1,950 per month, following a one-month complimentary trial period.
