Ralph Macchio has provided insights into the placement of Karate Kid: Legends within the Cobra Kai saga. He highlighted the distinct worlds these narratives inhabit. Macchio clarified that determining the right context for Daniel LaRusso's character involved careful consideration to safeguard his essence and the overall legacy associated with the Miyagi universe. He remarked that once everything aligned, it became clear how the storyline from Cobra Kai could transition into the upcoming film, despite their differing frameworks.

Additionally, collaborating with Jackie Chan excited him, reflecting on his origins in cinema and the thrill of returning to the big screen. The narrative is set three years after the conclusion of Cobra Kai season 6 part 2, depicting Daniel and Amanda LaRusso's move from the United States. A trailer, shown discreetly at New York Comic Con, features Mr. Han, portrayed by Jackie Chan, as he reaches out to Daniel at what is presumably the new Miyagi-Do.

Mr. Han seeks Daniel's guidance in training Li Fong, played by Ben Wang, to take on the role of the next Karate Kid. The film is directed by Jonathan Entwistle, known for The End of the F***ing World, with a script written by Rob Lieber, recognized for Peter Rabbit. Karate Kid: Legends is scheduled for release in theaters on May 30, 2025.
