Relic Entertainment is embarking on a new journey following its separation from Sega last year. This transition has led to a slight reduction in staff, with 41 employees departing, contributing to the ongoing trend of job losses in the gaming sector. Despite these challenges, Relic is poised to pursue ambitious goals for the future.

According to the CEO of Relic Entertainment, the The present circumstances offer a distinct opportunity to investigate the future trajectory of real-time strategy games. The company has witnessed a vibrant multiplayer community, though it acknowledges that certain limitations exist. For example, titles like Company of Heroes are rooted in a World War II setting, which can restrict audience reach. Additionally, the nature of strategy games inherently narrows the potential player base. Internally, discussions revolve around overcoming these obstacles and finding ways to attract new players into the genre.

In addition to developing new games, Relic plans to keep enhancing its current offerings, including Company of Heroes 3. The studio is celebrated for creating renowned titles like Homeworld, Age of Empires IV, and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, solidifying its reputation in the strategy gaming landscape. However, many of these intellectual properties are not under Relic's ownership. Nonetheless, it is encouraging to hear that Games Workshop remains a strong ally of Relic, suggesting that there may still be opportunities to revisit some of the studio's classic franchises in the future.
